Labor Day Weekend - September 3-5, 2011 |
| Online Schedule of Events!! |
| Download schedule and brochure |
Built at the location of the current stone church, the beautiful white building we now know as
Historic Charles W. Baldwin Hall originally served as the Church for the Methodist Episcopal
congregation that met at Severn Cross Roads from 1861 until the stone church was constructed
in the late 1890s. Historic Baldwin Hall has been moved twice, first to the opposite side of
Indian Landing Road to serve as the Sunday School and church hall for Baldwin Memorial United
Methodist Church, and then to its present location where it has been operated as an independent
community hall for the Millersville and Crownsville area.
Learn about the history of the
community and Historic Baldwin Hall by joining in a Cross Roads Open House event on Saturday,
September 3; celebrate with a community worship service and choral festival on Sunday,
September 4; and participate in hands on fun activities about local history from the Civil War
era at the Community Celebration on Monday, September 5. There is a unique opportunity to
place a photo or other treasure in a time capsule to be sealed until 2061.
To learn more, or to
volunteer to help with any of the activities, contact Annie
Medford or 443-254-2240
Planned events include:

Baldwin Hall |
| Historic Baldwin Hall, built in 1861, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Hall,
which is not a religious facility, is considered a significant example of 19th century country
church architecture.
|
| |
| It features beautiful arched windows, a lofty Victorian tile ceiling, chandeliers, and
hardwood floors. A full stage, with curtains and backlighting, offers an attractive focal
point to many events. At the opposite end of the main hall, there is a tiered balcony overlook.
|
| |
| This charming building is set on two acres, with large lawn, gravel parking areas, mature
hardwoods, and pine and cedar buffers. There is a formal flower garden with arch trellis and
path, and benches on the grounds. To the rear of the property, a replica nineteenth century
one-room school house, complete with large open front porch, overlooks the lawn and Baldwin Hall.
|
| |
| Historic Baldwin Hall is located in Millersville, Maryland, at the intersection of Millersville
Road and Generals Highway. With easy access to Interstate 97, Baldwin Hall is convenient to
Annapolis, Columbia, Baltimore, Washington, and BWI airport.
|
| |
| Interior capacity for the main hall is 125-150 for banquets or 299 for meetings and theater
productions.
|
| |
| Historic Charles W. Baldwin Hall and the reconstructed 1840s one room school house are
maintained by The Severn Cross Roads Foundations, Inc. and its volunteer Board of Trustees
who are members of the Foundation and citizens of our community. The Foundation and Baldwin
Hall have no religious affiliation. The use of Baldwin Hall is managed by a professional
Building Manager, who will be happy to answer your questions - please email or call 410-923-3438.
